Welcome to the portal for VisualEditor, a way of editing Wikipedia being developed by the Wikimedia Foundation (WMF) that does not require editors to learn wiki markup. Until VisualEditor, editors had to learn wiki markup to make most edits. VisualEditor will allow people to edit many types of pages without having to learn wikitext markup, and WMF staff hope that it encourages more readers to become editors.

Wikipedia is formatted using its own language called Wiki markup, also called Wikitext. It's pretty easy to learn the basics.

Wikipedia's content is governed by three principal core content policies: neutral point of view, verifiability, and no original research.

Drafts are pages in the Draft namespace where new articles may be created and developed, for a limited period of time.

The Articles for Creation (AfC) process is designed to assist any editor create a new page as a draft article, which they can work on and submit for review and feedback when ready. The AfC process must be used by non-registered users and by those who do not yet have sufficient editing experience because these groups of editors are not permitted to create articles directly in Wikipedia's mainspace.

Sandboxes, like Wikipedia:Sandbox, are pages designed for testing and experimenting with wiki syntax and the VisualEditor.

Before creating a draft article, you can practice by first editing in Wikipedia's community sandbox. It's a great way to try out editing without affecting live articles. If you need some help along the way, see our guide to your first article.
