About the Library Instruction Program

Mission Statement

The Florida International University Libraries seek to cultivate information literacy skills, in both undergraduate and graduate students, through quality virtual, and in-person instruction that will enable them to locate, evaluate and effectively incorporate the needed information.

Library Instruction Program Goals

  • To foster and enhance the pursuit of knowledge through free and open inquiry.
  • To educate students to recognize the need for information, understand the organization of knowledge, gather data using a variety of media and technologies and evaluate the relevance and authority of information in all its forms.
  • To prepare students to think critically as they seek and use information.
  • To promote ethical and lawful use of information and information technology.
  • To cultivate student flexibility to use acquired information competencies throughout life.
  • To encourage and enhance collaborative relationships between classroom and library faculty.
