“Love your library: Guess how many kisses are in the jar!” Contest. Last week, our FIU library lovers (students and faculty) from MMC & BBC were encouraged to guess how many Hershey’s candy kisses were the jar. Providing your guess was not the only thing the library wanted to know. Participants were also asked to give a reason why they loved the FIU Libraries, with an optional question of what they would love to see added to the library. In all, we received 48 entries including a few from our FIU Libraries’ Instagram and Twitter page.
Our Center For Excellence In Writing is back with extended tutoring hours at the Green Library! No appointment is needed. Tutors will be located at a table near the hub of computers on the second floor.
Friday, April 13: 5-10pm
Saturday, April 14: 12-5pm
Sunday, April 15: 12-5pm
The FIU Libraries will be debuting a snazzy new site and new search tools this Summer!
So what’s changing? We’ll have a fresh look and feel, clearer and bolder navigation, and all your important and frequently used information and services featured front and center.
Additional highlights of the new site include:
Beginning in 2018, the Special Collections and University Archives (SPCUA) Department began the task of scanning and uploading the earliest editions of the FIU student newspaper for online access (current issues of FIU’s student newspaper, Panther Press, have been available online since 2014).
Congratulations to Kelly F. and Jelisa O., our VIP Study Room Contest winners! We had a ton of great entries, and enjoyed reading all your stories about how the FIU Libraries have influenced you. Kelly and Jelisa's entries are below.
Jelisa (BBC contest winner):

We need your help! Have you attended an event at the FIU Libraries, either at the Green Library or the Hubert Library?
Tired of looking for an empty seat during finals? Do you want a quiet, worry-free space to study?
Enter to win your own study room and be a library V.I.P during the last two weeks of the semester!
To enter our V.I.P (Very Important Panther) Study Room contest you must answer the question (in 250 words or less) “How has the library helped you?”
“My Haiti” (Ayiti Pam Nan) is a collection by Haitian artists that combines the culture and colors with the politics of Haiti, inviting viewers into the heart and soul of AYITI (Haiti).
It is a positive response for and by the proud people of Haiti.
We invite you to participate personally by sharing your positive experiences of Haiti and its people at the Hubert Library, March 2nd - April 30th, through interviews or written comments.
It’s happened to everyone - it’s the end of the semester, you’re cleaning out your room, and you suddenly stumble across a library book you forgot you checked out back during the first week of school. Usually, the only option is to sigh and cough up the money for the overdue fee, but soon there will be a different way to solve the problem.
