ExLibris: Usage Data (COUNTER)
Using the Usage Data (COUNTER) area, the Design Analytics user may create reports/dashboards for the Usage Data (COUNTER) area and is able to answer the following types of business questions: Most frequently used journals, Annual journal usage trend, Total and monthly number of successful requests per each journal, Database Usage - Annual Trend, Most Frequently Used Databases, & Total number of searches and sessions per each database and the monthly/yearly search statistics

Creating & Managing E-Journals/Databases - r4 Datasets
In this course, you'll learn to set up and manage E-Journals/Databases - r4 Datasets. This dataset type allows you to fetch or harvest usage data from vendors that are compliant with standards for the formatting and automatic harvesting of data. If you have data from vendors that do not support data harvesting, you'll learn how to add that via upload or manual entry. First, you'll learn a bit about those standards and how to set up related SUSHI providers and platforms. Once you have set up the related elements and created the dataset, you will be able to fetch usage data, enter cost data, and conduct advanced analysis. You'll also learn about comparing data from one dataset to another

E-Journals / Databases (COUNTER 4) Datasets
The E-Journals/Databases (COUNTER r4) dataset allows you to analyze the usage of all of your e-journals and databases in one place. These datasets support the uploading of COUNTER r4 files, in addition to the harvesting of SUSHI data directly from your providers. If you happen to have a resource that does not support COUNTER r4 or SUSHI, no worries! You can manually enter or upload generic usage data, as well.
E-Resources: COUNTER 5 Datasets
The E-Resources/COUNTER 5 dataset allows you to analyze e-journal, ebook, and database usage from COUNTER 5-compliant vendors. Compliant providers were required to start providing r5 reports in January 2019, and providing a SUSHI service is a mandatory part of compliance. As a result, E-Resources/COUNTER 5 datasets do not have a manual upload or entry option. Data can only be added via a SUSHI harvest.
E-Resources Management: Add & manage platforms
In E-Resources/COUNTER 5 datasets, E-Journals/Databases (COUNTER 4) datasets, and eBooks (COUNTER 4) datasets, usage and cost data are organized by platform. When setting up these datasets, you'll have the option to add your platforms manually or import them from another dataset or your central platforms list.
E-Resources Management: Add & Manage SUSHI Providers
In E-Resources/COUNTER 5 datasets, E-Journals/Databases (COUNTER 4) datasets, and eBooks (COUNTER 4) datasets, usage data can be fetched directly from providers using the SUSHI protocol. LibInsight allows you to centrally set up and manage your SUSHI provider settings, which you can then use when fetching usage data in your datasets.
eBooks (COUNTER 4) Datasets
The eBooks dataset allows you to analyze the usage of all of your eBook platforms in one place. These datasets support the uploading of COUNTER files, in addition to the harvesting of SUSHI data directly from your providers. If you happen to have a platform that does not support COUNTER or SUSHI, no worries! You can manually enter or upload generic usage data, as well.

One benefit of COUNTER Release 5 is that you can fetch title-level usage data for journals and eBooks in a single report. This allows you to analyze all titles for a platform in a single LibInsight dataset, since they all share the same metrics. If your E-Resources/COUNTER 5 dataset has multiple platforms, you can more easily see the combined usage across all platforms, as well.

Standardized Usage Statistics Harvesting Initiative (SUSHI)

What is SUSHI?

"The Standardized Usage Statistics Harvesting Initiative (SUSHI) protocol provides instructions to automate the collection of usage statistics reports from compliant vendors. The primary benefit of SUSHI is that it automates a tedious and repetitive process. Current practice for statistics retrieval calls for library staff to go to each individual publisher’s website and manually retrieve statistical data. In some cases, this data is in COUNTER format, but sometimes it is the publisher’s own internal format. Occasionally it is available only through a web screen and cannot be downloaded; only printed. The SUSHI protocol automates the process; but also, by default, encourages the publishers to put usage data into a standard format (COUNTER XML). Therefore the retrieval is not only automatic but far easier to use." -National Information Standards Organization (NISO)
