Thinking about creating a new LibGuide? Things to consider

Topical Guides

  • What's new in your subject realm?
  • Is there a pertinent topic that needs library resources?
  • Have fun and make a guide from an unacademic topic with academic resources
  • Share your research pursuits

Collaboration with Colleagues

  • Can you work with another librarian/liaison inside or outside the Reference dept?
  • Having multiple authors with different points of view and subject focuses can make your guide more useful
  • Consistency is key: Work with your colleagues to develop
    • Style guidelines: Make sure everyone's on the same page
    • Reusable content: Create blueprint guides and other content that everyone can reuse
  • Also, don't be afraid to ask someone to look over your guide
    • Another set of eyes can help you trim unnecessary words or spot the passive voice lurking in your guides!

Library Resources

  • Are you providing useful links to library resources
  • Are there other LibGuides, databases, eBooks, or streaming media that you can add
  • Did you check the > FIU Libraries Blueprint Guide for boxes to reuse
  • Did you create any LibGuide widgets? Tools> Widgets

Purpose

  • What is the goal of this guide?
  • Who is your target audience?
  • How can you accomplish your goal using the LibGuides tools?

Visual Elements

  • Add images for your content in your Image Manager Library
  • Use images, icons, & screenshots from the Shared Library
  • Use images & icons in your added links
  • Use a gallery box for added interest and color to your pages
