Welcome to the FIU Libraries' Global Learning LibGuide

This LibGuide is a portal to informational resources that develop global awareness, perspective and engagement through global learning in the curriculum and co-curriculum.

What is global learning?

Global learning is the process of diverse people collaboratively analyzing and addressing complex problems that transcend borders.

Global learning strategies enable groups to determine relationships among multiple perspectives, developing individual and collective capacities to create equitable, sustainable solutions that respond to the world’s diversity and interrelatedness.

Global Learning Courses

All FIU undergraduates take a minimum of two global learning courses prior to graduation— one interdisciplinary foundations course in the general education curriculum and one discipline-specific global learning course as part of the major.

Global Learning Foundations courses are part of the University Core Curriculum. Interdisciplinary in content, they deal with essential questions and complex issues that are best understood and addressed through multiple disciplinary perspectives. These courses set the stage for students to make interdisciplinary connections throughout their university career, and incorporate a co-curricular activity as part of the syllabus.

Discipline-Specific Global Learning courses are embedded into nearly every undergraduate academic program. These courses provide students with a global view of their discipline of study and may be taken either as required courses or as electives.

Global Learning Medallion
The Global Learning Medallion is awarded to students upon graduation who have completed an extensive curriculum and co-curriculum designed to enhance global awareness, global perspective, and an attitude of global engagement in FIU’s World Ahead graduates. Get more info here...

What is Peace Corps Prep at FIU?

Peace Corps Prep at FIU is a program managed by FIU’s Office of Global Learning Initiatives, through a formal partnership with the Peace Corps national office.

Students in FIU’s Peace Corps Prep program will complete four global learning courses, four semesters of foreign language study (all classes passed with a C grade or higher), a globally-focused community engagement project, and a written self-reflection. Students will gain skills and experiences that make them competitive applicants for the Peace Corps and other international development positions.

Upon completion of the program, graduates will be formally recognized by FIU and the Peace Corps.

The Tuesday Times Roundtable (TTR) is FIU’s weekly series of moderated conversations on The New York Times articles from the multiple viewpoints of students, faculty, and staff. All sessions are absolutely free, and include lunch.
No RSVP is required; just show up!
