Intermediate Level: Try Reference Tools

At an intermediate level, reference tools such as encyclopedias can be useful, providing more information than websites but at a less specific and/or advanced level than scholarly articles. To find reference tools, try running a search in the library catalog for your topic and add the word "encyclopedia" or "reference" to your search.

When using intermediate-level resources, you may run into technical words (jargon) you do not understand. Use the medical dictionaries listed below to find definitions for these words quickly and easily.

NCI Dictionary of Cancer Terms
The National Cancer Institute's dictionary, containing definitions of 7,657 terms related to cancer and medicine.
RxList Drug Medical Dictionary
Contains definitions and explanations of many medical terms, including prescription medication abbreviations.
Unified Medical Dictionary
Multilingual medical dictionary by the World Health Organization with definitions in Arabic, English, Farsi, French, German, and Spanish.
