Open Access Scholarship at FIU: An Overview

The FIU Libraries provide persistent and reliable access to scholarship generated by the FIU community through online open access platforms serving publications and research data. Including your works in one of these platforms increases discoverability, visibility, citations and potential impact of your work.

Publications

You can provide broad access to your articles, research reports, and other scholarly work through FIU's institutional repository Digital Commons. 

Digital Commons is:

A full‐text, online, open access repository and publishing platform for the  scholarship, creative output and history of FIU. The goals of the repository are to: 

  • Serve as a persistent and centralized access point for FIU scholarship and creative works 
  • Promote faculty and student research to a global community 
  • Preserve the history, growth and development of FIU 

Works in Digital Commons include: 

  • Working papers, conference papers, and technical reports
  • Faculty-student collaborative projects
  • Journals published by the FIU community
  • Published articles when copyright and/or license allow
  • Faculty course-related output primarily of scholarly interest
  • Organizational annual reports, newsletters, founding documents etc.
  • Books or book chapters when copyright and/or license allow
  • Image collections or audiovisual materials, either primary or supplementary

Research Data

You can archive and publish your finalized research data sets in FIU's research data repository the Research Data Portal.

Research Data Portal is:

An inter-disciplinary data archive to support access and reuse of finalized research data sets produced at FIU.

Funded by a student technology fee grant, the Research Data Portal is built on the Harvard Dataverse open source web application to help faculty and students share, preserve, cite, explore and analyze research data.

FIU's Research Data Portal:

Supports publishing of a wide variety of data and related electronic material across all disciplines created by Faculty, Students and Staff at FIU. This includes, spreadsheets, surveys, GIS Data and Imagery, code and more.
