Another Way to OA @ FIU: Take These Steps

Publish your scholarly work as open access and at no cost to you in FIU's institutional repository

Find Out What Your Publisher Allows

When you publish an article in a journal, you often sign a publishing agreement. Publishing agreements vary by publisher and each publisher requests a different set of publishing rights to your work. While some publisher's agreements restrict what the author can do with their published article, most publishers will allow the author's accepted manuscript  to be deposited in an Institutional Repository.

What will my publisher let me do with my article?

There's a couple ways you can check:

  1. Review the agreement you signed with your publisher.
  2. Review the journal's website.
  3. Use a tool like Sherpa/Romeo to search for specific publisher and journal policies.

If none of these options yield the answer you are looking for, you can always contact library staff who can assist you in navigating publisher policies.

    Submitting Directly to Digital Commons

  1. Find the Department/Center/Program/Publication you would like to submit to on Digital Commons Collections List.
  2. Select "Submit Your Work" from the side bar on the right hand side.
  3. You will be prompted to login with your Digital Commons account. If you don't already have an account, you can create one on the My Accounts tab or login via the FIU Portal using your FIU email and password on the My Accounts tab.
  4. Review and sign the submission consent form.
  5. Complete all required elements on the submission form.
  6. Attach your file.
  7. Submit.

Please remember when submitting your work, you must comply with all copyright and licensing agreements with journals/publishers.

Mediated Deposit

Digital Commons staff may also be available to assist you in uploading your research to Digital Commons. All you need to do is send your CV. Digital Commons staff will review your body of work, check copyright for your work and determine what can be placed in Digital Commons. Email CVs to Jill Krefft jkrefft@fiu.edu.
