LIT4253 / 4224: Exile and Literature

literature research

The resources below are the best best for researching literature criticism on exile literature.

Advanced search options are your friend!  They can help you you be as specific and narrow as possible or create a broad search.  At a minimum, most databases have advanced search options that allow you to specify your search criteria (subject headings, author, source title, article title, etc.), specify a date range, limit your results to peer-reviewed articles, specify the type of document your results are coming from (transcript, book review, survey data, and more!); many other databases, especially the more-subject specific ones will offer other tools and search options to help you search and narrow your results.

See this helpful video for an idea of what options may be available...

  • continue to search and narrow down your topic to make it more manageable and specific
  • use the tools built-in to the databases and other resources to help guide you, such as subject headings, tags, related searches, etc.
  • try not to enter a long string of words or complete phrases in a single search box, some databases won't give you successful search results, try instead to break up you search into a few key words and terms
  • repeat, repeat, repeat; you may need to repeat the process more than once in order to get to the exact type of results you are looking for
  • try to use multiple databases, don't be satisified with the results from just one database
