Hispanic and Latino Americans are the largest minority group in the United States, and have left an indelible mark on everything from literature and art to business and politics. These contributions to the culture and history of the United States are recognized and celebrated during National Hispanic Heritage Month, which begins on September 15 (a date chosen because it is the anniversary of independence of five Latin American countries) and runs until October 15.
In honor of National Hispanic Heritage Month, we invite you to peruse the James Nelson Goodsell Photo Collection. James Goodsell was the Latin American correspondent for international news organization The Christian Science Monitor for over two decades, and collected material from South America to the Caribbean and Central America. Images, video clips, and audio commentaries document the region's unique history and heritage.
