"The Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum, Smithsonian Institution is the only museum in the nation devoted exclusively to historic and contemporary design." The museum's "expansive and varied collection, comprising over 250,000 objects, is international in scope, includes both historic and contemporary design, and extends from one-of-a-kind to mass-produced items. The Florida Sustainable Communities Demonstration Project was created by the Florida Legislature in 1996 to promote community involvement in achieving higher levels of energy efficiency and environmental protection throughout Florida. The Demonstration Project was developed as a way to evaluate which initiatives are most effective for producing sustainable communities.

The architecture and design section of the MoMA.org site spotlights an online collection in addition to numerous online exhibitions and projects.

Periferia was published by the Architectural Resources Network, a non-profit virtual organization of architects and urban designers linked by the Internet. It has not been updated since 2001 but there are many active links to projects and floorplans that may be of interest for those researching the Caribbean.

Produced by the National Center for Appropriate Technology (NCAT), this site is designed to promote sustainable development strategies in communities across the nation. You can read about other communities that have discovered the benefits of sustainable development; locate technical and financial resources that can help your community plan and carry out sustainable development projects; and access model codes and ordinances other communities have used to implement sustainable development. One of the success stories linked at this site, is the Florida Sustainable Communities Demonstration Project. This site includes publications, educational resources and links to other municipalities concerned with sustainable development.

This series highlights the most remarkable achievements in modern architecture, from the works that heralded the birth of the modern style at the end of the 19th century to the latest designs by today's top architects. Each program examines the structure of the building, the architectural techniques as well as its cultural and historical influences. By examining a key building in detail the series brings light to its role in the evolution of architecture.

From this came the Latin word architectus, used by the theorist Vitruvius, whose treatise On Architecture was written c. 17 bc. This site has a great deal of visual content and provides access to exhibitions, book reviews and an image library culminating in a wealth of images including photos and drawings.

This site provides links to current news about architectural projects from newspapers around the world. It includes a selective archive to architecture news back through 2002.

Garden and Forest was the first American journal devoted to horticulture, botany, landscape design and preservation, national and urban park development, scientific forestry, and the conservation of forest resources. The journal was established by Charles Sprague Sargent (1841-1927), the founding director of the Arnold Arboretum of Harvard University. This journal has been preserved as part of the Library of Congress' Preservation Digital Reformatting Program.

Highlights of past issues are available online for this periodical which provides critical explorations of key contemporary issues and practices related to the built environment. This large-format publication includes essays, photographic and design portfolios, book reviews, and debates.

Interior Design is the magazine for the interior design professional marketplace. The online site provides "industry news every day, new product reviews, the Go-To Buyers Guide, the Interior Design Hall of Fame, industry catalogs in the Digital Library, the Best of Year Awards, and more."

This online version of Metropolis Magazine provides to non-subscribers some full-text articles from the recent and posted archival issues.

A peer reviewed journal that incorporates writings from a variety of fields in design, the arts and social sciences, it is published by the Design History Foundation. You can browse each issue or use the search box to search for your topic across multiple issues.
