PubMed & RefWorks

PubMed makes it easy to export citations and add them to your RefWorks account.

Importing PubMed Citations into RefWorks

Once you have created your PubMed citation file, import it to RefWorks from the Reference -> Import References menu. Choose to import "From Text File" and select the “NLM PubMed” option on the “Import Filter/Data Source.”

Exporting Citations from PubMed

  1. From a citation entry, click on the small down arrow () next to the “Send to:” link at the top of the page.
  2. Select the “Citation manager” option
  3. Click on the “Create File” button.
  4. Save the resulting file, named “citations.nbib” by default, on your computer.

  1. From your search results page, check the box next to every citation you want to add to RefWorks.
  2. Click on the small down arrow () next to the “Send to:” link at the top of the page.
  3. Select the “Citation manager” option.
  4. Click on the “Create File” button.
  5. Save the resulting file, named “citations.nbib” by default, on your computer.
