Library Associates Membership Policy

The FIU Libraries invite you to become an FIU Library Associate.

Library Associates have an important role in contributing to the value of the University Libraries in the community. We need people like you to help us stimulate an awareness of the importance of libraries for the future development of the University and the community. Your contribution will help support new library resources and services.

Membership as an Associate is open to all individuals or corporate entities. Associates not affiliated with the University must be at least 18 years of age.

FIU Alumni, employees and currently enrolled students already have library privileges (use your FIU I.D. Card).

Checking Out Materials

Present your FIU LIBRARY CARD at the circulation desk. This card is required to checkout or renew library materials. Another person may not use your card.

Overdue and Unreturned Items

If the circulation staff fails to tell you the due date of the material(s), please do not hesitate to ask. Due dates are also available online from the library catalog website by clicking on the "renewals/library account" button.

If your address or other personal contact information changes, please notify the Circulation Desk in writing. Include your library card number.

Fines for overdue materials are 25 cents per day per item with a maximum $10.00 fine for each overdue item.

A minimum replacement cost of $105.00 will be charged for each item not returned 30 days beyond the due date. Once the material has been returned in good condition, the replacement cost will be voided and only the maximum overdue fine will remain.

Circulation privileges will be blocked if you have overdue items or outstanding fines and/or bills until all obligations are cleared.
