The following list of links are provided for instruction librarians to become acquainted with the wide variety of teaching methods and styles used by other institutions in designing web tutorials. The tutorials included here run the spectrum from excellent to uninspired. Why? Good intentions and hard work do not a successful tutorial make. It's also useful to experience less effective tutorials, to identify what not to do when designing an instructional resource. The tutorials are listed in alphabetical order by institutional name. URLs are included in case one wants to print the page.
PRIMO: Peer-Reviewed Instructional Materials Online

Sun Tutor is a straight-forward, succinct tutorial. Not interactive except for moving from each section to the next. The pages are clean and clear to the eye and doesn't present too much information on each page.
The Info Game tutorial gives the feeling of interactivity by using varying fonts and illustrations to break up the content, making it more readable. The quiz at the end of the section was good. It gave results and could be sent to the instructor. http://library.austincc.edu/help/infogame/start.htm
These Instructional Services tutorials include a workbook-type tutorial, a tutorial on mastering the web and another based on U of Minnesota's Assignment Calculator. They use various formats. http://www.bsu.edu/library/collections/instsvs/tutorials/
Bowling Green State University

The Oasis Tutorial is designed to fulfill the Basic Information Competence Requirement, a graduation requirement for all SFSU undergraduates. Extremely comprehensive, the student does not need to complete it in one sitting. Well organized, loads fast, and includes quizzes. Doing Research: An Introduction to the Concepts of Online Searching is a creative interactive tutorial that covers the AND of Boolean searching in a very effective manner.
University of Newcastle (Australia)
InfoSkills: Information Literacy and Academic Integrity Tutorial is a clear, interactive tutorial which integrates the practice of academic integrity into the development of information competencies.
