Canadian Music Periodical Index
CMPI is an index to Canadian music periodical literature which provides bibliographic sources for information on all aspects of musical activity in Canada. Updated monthly, the database currently includes more than 25,000 entries indexed from 475 Canadian music journals, newsletters and magazines from the late nineteenth century to the present day.

Hymn Tune Index
The HTI database contains all hymn tunes printed anywhere in the world with English-language texts up to 1820, and their publication history up to that date.


Selected Historical Collections of Music from American Memory, the Nation's Digital Library
American Memory is a gateway to rich primary source materials relating to the history and culture of the United States. The site offers more than 7 million digital items from more than 100 historical collections.

Center for Computer Assisted Research in the Humanities
Founded in 1984, the Center for Computer Assisted Research in the Humanities is engaged in the development of large databases of musical and textual materials for applications in research, teaching, and performance.

Choral Public Domain Library
A Free Sheet Music Archive which offers free choral music to anyone who is interested. Begun in December 1998, the site has over 140 contributors and 3,100 scores.

18th Century Flute Database
Contains listings for about 1700 instruments, with details of attribution, maker's mark, materials, keys, and reports in the literature. The database was compiled from various sources, including Phillip T. Young's two Indices, Sotheby's auction catalogs in the collection of Tony Bingham, and a pitch database by Bruce Haynes. It contains many shorthand references to the literature on musical instruments.

British Song Fa la la
A database of British+ songs. Join us in a cornucopia of information on over 6000 song cycles, sets, albums, collections and individual songs, representing a body of song literature from the end of the 16th century to the present.

Doctoral Dissertations in Musicology - Online
DDM-Online presents an index to dissertations-in-progress and a bibliography of completed dissertations reported sincemid-1995, arranged under the traditional broad categories. In addition, DDM-Online includes all the records previously published in the earlier printed editions of Doctoral Dissertations in Musicology, which are still available for sale. The dissertations themselves are not included in DDM-Online, but many of them may be available for purchase from University Microfilms, Inc.

Lied and Art Song Texts Page
An Archive of Texts to Lieder and other Classical Art Songs (Kunstlieder, Mélodies, Canzoni, Romansy, Canciones, Liederen, Canções, Sånger, Laulua, etc.) as well as many choral works and other types of classical vocal pieces, with thousands of translations to English, French and other languages.

MLA Obituary Index
An online index of obituary citations published annually by the Music Library Association (MLA) in its quarterly journal, Notes. The index facilitates access to information about musicians and other members of the music world. Obituary citations are compiled from a wide range of sources; selection criteria have varied by editor.

The Aria Database
A diverse collection of information on over 1000 operatic arias. Designed for singers and non-singers alike, the Database includes translations and aria texts of most arias as well as a collection of MIDI files of operatic arias and ensembles.

Classical Music Resources / Duke University
More than 60 databases relating to nearly every aspect of music, including musicology; music theory, performance and education; music bibliography; opera libretti and vocal texts; CD and book reviews. You will also find web pages containing thousands of classical music sound files in MIDI format as well as collections of music-related images.

ClassicalNet
Links to recording reviews & articles, a recommended classical CD buying guide, a basic classical repertoire list, a list of composers' works, extensive bibliographies and many links to other music sites.

The Hector Berlioz Website
This site is devoted to the life and works of Hector Berlioz. It presents news of performances of his music, events to celebrate the composer's forthcoming bicentenary, recent publications and recordings, reviews and other contributions from regular visitors to the site. Outstanding features are links to Berlioz's scores (both English and French versions), texts to literary inspired compositions, and extracts on his Treatise on Instrumentation and Orchestration.

Richard Wagner Archive
Extensive compilation of information on this composer, with particular emphasis on cultural and historical issues. Contains lists of Wagner's musical and literary works, a bibliography of scholarly writings, and brief essays on relevant topics (some essays and source materials are available only in German). Links to other sites and sound clips. The splendid presentation makes ample use of images. Ranked 4-star by the McKinley Group.

Archives of African American Music and Culture - Indiana University
Established in 1991, the Archives of African American Music and Culture (AAAMC) is a repository of materials covering various musical idioms and cultural expressions from the post-World War II era. The AAAMC supports the research of scholars, students, and the general public from around the world by providing access to oral histories, photographs, musical and print manuscripts, audio and video recordings, and educational broadcast programs, among other holdings.

Classical Hub
A comprehensive and varied site dedicated to classical music. Included are an active BBS of several hundred registered members, a full featured classical music educational and informational section, with features such as composer biographies, a regular newsletter, comprehensive guides to composers and conductors, a performers gallery, instruments gallery, and much more.

Historic American Sheet Music / Duke University
The Rare Book, Manuscript, and Special Collections Library at Duke University holds a significant collection of 19th and early 20th century American sheet music. The Historic American Sheet Music Project provides access to digital images of 3042 pieces from the collection, published in the United States between 1850 and 1920.

Necrology Index / Gaylord Music Library - Washington University
The Gaylord Music Library Necrology file first began as a card file in the mid-1980s. (Inquiries concerning this information are welcome.) In 1991, the project moved to a word processing file and in 1995, became available as a web page. The goal is to report what appears in the music media as it arrives in this library. This includes the Obituary Index from 1991 to 1998 that has appeared in Music Library Association Notes. The column is now called the Necrology Index.

American Music Center
Founded in 1939 by Aaron Copland and others, the American Music Center is the only national service organization in the world devoted exclusively to the greater field of contemporary American music.

A comprehensive web site of Clasical Singer magazine, it provides a wealth of information for singers, including auditions listings by e-mail, an online coaches directory, a discussion forum, a singer database, book announcements and much more. Membership and subscriber privileges are offered.

OperaGlass
OperaGlass is an opera information server on the World Wide Web. Here you can get detailed information,including: Libretti, Source Texts, Performance Histories, Synopses , and Discographies, plus pictures, background information, and more on any of a small but rapidly growing number of operas, plus pointers to many other opera servers.

Metropolitan Opera
Contains the season schedule, discographies and filmographies of Met videos and CDs, an information bulletin board, stories of major operas, a broadcast schedule, and an opera quiz.
