Searching IIMP/FULL TEXT


IIMP Full Text is a growing database of bibliographic records including abstracts and full text. It provides indexing, abstracting and selected full-text coverage of the most important scholarly and popular music journals published today. IIMP Full Text is an excellent source for reviews.

BASIC SEARCHING



The following are the most common types of searches and search limits:

Keyword -- Search by word or phrase

Examples:
ProTools
bowing techniques
charlie parker

Author -- When you know either the last name, or the first and last names of the author of an article.

Examples:
wilkins or
wilkins robert
Enter last name, then first name

Document Type -- Use this feature to narrow your search, especially for research or book review articles.

Example: Click "Select from a list," type Recording Review, Research, or Book Review, etc.
C lick LOOK FOR and click OK. Continue with other search criteria.

Publication -- Specify the title of the journal from which the article comes.
Example: type opera news or click "Select from a list" and fill in the "Publication" box. Click LOOK FOR.

Language -- Use to specify the language of the item.
Type  English or click Select from a list, type the language and click LOOK FOR, then OK.

Publication Date

Use to specify the publishing date of the article.
Type in beginning and ending dates (inclusive) of publication.

ADVANCED SEARCHING


Truncation -- Use the asterisk (*) to retrieve variant endings of a word stem.
Examples: concert* retrieves concerto, concertos, concerti, concertino



Boolean Operators -- Use and, or, not to expand or limit searches.

Examples:

jazz and blues
jazz or blues
jazz not blues
music education and teaching myths


Proximity Searching -- (near, fby [followed by]) - Use to find one term within a specific distance of another.

Examples:
funding near arts
chorus near.3 symphony [finds chorus within 3 words of symphony]
symphony fby.3 chorus [finds symphony followed by up to 3 words of chorus]
