Comments:
- They told you what you needed to know but seemed as though you were imposing on them; not accommodating.
- With the initial start-up in using the computers. They were great! :o).
- I asked for a stapler, it took a while, no staples in the stapler.
- Very helpful but the problems were with internet access.
- They attempted, however, we had to go to Sandy in the end.
- It did take several minutes to get help but when I did they were helpful.
- Friendly and eager to help.
- They were available on request and constantly seeked to assist you with request.
- Yes, the librarians were very helpful.
- Yes, they helped us to get to another database.
- At times, they acted as if, they were bust. Not all, but some.
- When I couldn't access Dissertation Abstracts, the librarian curtly told me sometimes it was difficult to access and to come back on Monday (which happened to be a holiday the library was closed.); When I had problems with the microfiche printer, the librarian was upset that I didn't come get her when the printer malfunctioned on the first copy. I made two copies thinking that the error was on my part. She was very rude.

Other microfiche
Comments:
- References need to be expanded in area of higher education.
- Trying to retrieve ERIC, very time-consuming. Only 1 person available and 50 of us waiting.
- The microfiche took a while to get because we had to wait until the clerk finished with each one of our requests.
- 10. Were you able to obtain the materials you required? Yes 15 No 4
(books, videos, journals, microfiche, etc)
Comments:
- Could not find journals during certain dates (unable to obtain missing Spring copies.)
- Very few educational journals Developmental Education none!
- Some of the microfiche were difficult to read.
- I requested a dissertation through interlibrary loan. As of yet, one month later I have not received it nor have I had any feedback regarding it.
- Needed to go to FIU's library.
- Saturday is obviously a busy day at the library. Information gathering took some time.
- 11. Did the Library Liaison (Sandra Kwavnick) prepare you adequately for your library session?
Yes 20 No 0
Comments:
- Very thorough presentation.
- Absolutely she was very helpful.
- Sandra is very supportive and resourceful.
- Thank you for spending time explaining how to access information at the library.
- Excellent help with follow up phone call.
- She is wonderful. Pay her double.
- Extremely helpful and knowledgeable.
- :o) Thank you!
- 12. Were the handouts you received from the Library Liaison helpful? Yes 19 No 0
Comments:
- I was able to refer to them when I needed help.
- I really did not use much of it because of the time frame on computer. The computer was very slow.
- If yes, which handouts were most useful?
- All of the handouts Instructions on searching ERIC, FirstSearch.
- The handout listing the different databases.
- The handouts that were helpful were the "All Databases" and "Search ERIC Databases."
- The different Computer vehicles for the various avenue of knowledge/resources.
- How to download information from BIGCAT.
- The one with the databases was very helpful.
- Using First Search to find articles, Educational Periodicals, Search ERIC database.
- ERIC database, How to get Library card.
- The handout regarding the journals available & education periodicals & using First Search.
- How can the Library Liaison better help you with your research requirements?
- As of right now, just keep the lines of communication working as well as they are.
- I'll definitely call in the future if I'm having trouble I may need more help finding Government documents.
- Be available after school hours Often she works when we are at work.
- Have more librarians there to assist us.
- Her availability was good maybe she could get some help so someone would be there full time.
- I think she is very helpful and accessible.
- Provide a sample inquiry and provide a tour of the library in attempts to research it thoroughly.
- The current services are great!
- The library liaison can better assist me with my research requirements by having all computer systems up and running.
- Continue with the information sessions.
- A friendlier, more patient attitude on the part of the librarians would be helpful.
- How can the Library better serve you in the future?
- I would appreciate a friendlier attitude on the part of the librarians. I encountered the same sort of problems at the South Regional branch as well.
- More computer time or more computers.
- Have more help for those students who are experiencing difficulty. The wait time was too long.
- By deducting the cost for copies and extending the computer time.
- Provide faster and more accessibility to computers.
- Quicker, sustained access to the internet.
- By enabling us to obtain materials quickly & efficiently.
- Faster, more computers that access ALL databases! Bond issue passes build libraries out of concrete NOT marble. Use $ for electronics and current ed. journals.
- If possible, extend the time limit during "off" hours for students ( I realize this is a public library, but a 1 hour time frame was very short for my assignment.
- I was very pleased the service. The only thing would be to expand its collection of journals.
- Being made aware of needs of doctoral students and helping meet those needs without being curt or rude.
- Which library services or features did you find the most useful?
- Microfiche, on-line computers.
- Using databases on computers using First Search.
- The e-mail of documents to a site of choice.
- Microfiche, reader-copier.
- Phone numbers that actually reach people that can help you with your FIU access number.
- Computer databases to academic articles.
- The librarians were very helpful.
- I found having the lists of databases available the most helpful.
- Internet access as I don not have a home computer as of yet.
- What would you recommend doing differently in future CIS (IPS) research sessions?
- Reserve computer time for research sessions so that some class members do not have to wait.
- Nothing, this actually was very helpful.
- This is my first class within the program. Therefore, I don't have much experience or knowledge about the program. However, I would like to hear more people talk about their experience in the program.
- Another day for library research as Saturday is quite occupied.
- Walking us through the searching on a computer with us actually being on the computer like a lab setting.
- The first CIS should be an orientation to the library.
- This is not an activity to be use for an entire CIS course.
- Do orientation on site in small groups.
- Never 6 hours at a time. Use group for research but on individual projects. We have three classes each one requiring a different topic dumb! Wasted energy especially since we work full time.
- Set aside certain area of computers for the class, if possible.
- Decreasing the amount of paper trail required Why 50+ copies of our work?
- Possibly reserving an area where groups can talk. It seemed to bother others when we were discussing projects in open areas.
- Additional Comments:
- When Sandra Kwavnick gave her presentation, she said "If you don't know about something, just ask."
- As a first time Internet user I had many questions. The attitude on the part of the librarians made me hesitant to ask questions.
- I was quite disturbed that the library permitted people to view pornography sites in a public venue. When we were at the library on a number of occasions there were men sitting next to us viewing pornographic sites. They would rotate computers throughout the day. The librarian said that they could not prohibit this. Young children were watching and laughing at the men. Please look into this I understand that the 1st Amendment protects this but who protects our children from being exposed to this filth.
- At times going to the library can be overwhelming. It would be helpful to have enough personnel to answer questions as needed.
- Be sure to give library notice of the students attendance that day. The staff were overwhelmed and the computer could not access First Search and even ERIC took a long time. A man was using the internet to download pornography.
