Purpose
The Florida International University Libraries web site represents the libraries image to the world. It is the general expression of the whole institution rather than of any one individual or group. The site supports the libraries educational and outreach mission by providing efficient access and connection to an increasing array of library resources.
Role of the Web Site Committee
The role of the Web Site Committee is to provide guidance and establish standards for the library web pages. It will ensure high quality and consistency of content, organization, and presentation of information. To ensure the continuing excellence of the web site, the committee has established this policy governing its content and design. The Web Site Committee consists of appointed individuals and is chaired by the web master.
The Role of the Web Manager
The web manager is responsible for the management and ongoing operation of the web site. This includes ensuring the technical integrity, accuracy, and internal consistency of the site; working with document developers to prepare approved material for posting or revision; implementing this material in web form; gathering and reporting usage statistics; maintaining a tickler system to be sure all material is reviewed and updated periodically by developers, and referring to committee web pages that are inactive, obsolete, or no longer maintained; recommending, researching, and implementing enhancements to the site; and keeping users informed of new and revised material that appears on the site.
Technical Standards and Guidelines
In keeping with the philosophy of providing the same over-all library experience on both campuses, the Web Site Committee, the web manager, and document developers must adhere to uniform technical standards and guidelines adopted by the committee. These guidelines must be in conformity with University policies and procedures. The committee may consider desirable variances and adopt them by simple majority, with the approval of the Executive Director of Libraries or his designee.
