Group Study Rooms Policy

Group Study Rooms are available at both campus libraries:

  • Biscayne Bay Campus Library on a first-come, first-served honor system basis.
  • Green Library, University Park Campus via keys which are checked-out at the Circulation Desk on the Second Floor. The loan period is 2 hours. Renewals are not guaranteed and are based on availability.

Locating available Group Study Rooms:

  • From any computer, search in the FIU Course Reserves by "Title" with the words "group study" to discover room locations, numbers, and availability status.

The following rules apply for both the University Park and Biscayne Bay Campus Libraries:

  • The rooms are provided for groups of 2 or more individuals for the purpose of studying and meeting and are not for individual use.
  • Current FIU students have priority for the rooms.
  • Rooms may not be left unattended at any time during the 2 hour loan period. If a room is left unattended, use will be relinquished and given to the next waiting group.
  • The Library is not responsible for the loss or theft of personal property. If you leave the room unattended, you risk the loss of your possessions.
  • Snack foods are permitted. Other foods such as pizzas, burgers, etc. are not permitted. Guidelines in the Building Use Policy apply.

The following rules apply for only the Green Library, University Park Campus:

  • A valid FIU PantherCard is required to check out a room. Other forms of identification are not acceptable.
  • A key for the room must be charged out at the Circulation Desk on the 2nd Floor. There is a non-renewable 2 hour limit per group and the room must be occupied during this time. Renewals are possible only if no other group is waiting for the room. Renewals can be requested only at the conclusion of the 2 hour loan period.
  • You are responsible for the key (which is charged to your library account), the behavior of each person in the group, and the condition of the room. If the key is not returned, there will be a replacement fee of $50.00.
  • At the end of 2 hours, the key must be returned to the Reserve Desk. A $30.00 fine will be assessed if the key is not returned on time. Upon the return of the key, the room will be checked out to the next waiting group.
  • Close the door and make sure that it is locked, then return the key to the Circulation Desk on the 2nd Floor.
  • Failure to follow these rules may result in the immediate relinquishing of the room.
