University Park Locations

• Electronic Research Center
  The ERC, located near the Reference Desk on east side of the 2nd floor, contains 30 desktop computers with Internet access, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and select CD-ROM databases. Additionally, 5 computers have scanners and CD burners, Macromedia software (Flash, Dreamweaver) and Adobe software (Illustrator, PhotoShop). Assistance is available during posted hours.

• Internet Cafe Area:
  20 computers are available on the first floor lobby for Research purposes. These computers have access to library databases and the Internet. This area is self-service only; no assistance is provided.

• Open Lab - 5th Floor
  20 computers are available on the west side of the 5th floor for student use. These computers have Internet access and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). This area is self-service only; no assistance is provided.

• Reference Area
  20 computers are available on the east side of the 2nd floor for Research purposes. These computers have access to library databases and the Internet.

• Government Documents Area
  20 computers are available on the south side of the 2nd floor for Research purposes. These computers have access to library databases, the Internet, and a local CD-ROM network.

• Alcoves
  Computers are available on each floor for locating library materials. These computers have access only to the library catalog and databases.

• Wireless and Laptop Access
  Wireless access is available throughout the library. Students can bring their own laptops, or may borrow a laptop from the Circulation Desk.

Biscayne Bay Locations

• Open Lab - 1st Floor
  35 desktop computers are available on the northeast side of the 1st floor, with Internet access, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access), Macromedia software (Flash, Dreamweaver, Freehand, Fireworks), SPSS 13.0, Adobe software (Illustrator, PhotoShop) , All computers have cd burners, 12 computers have zip drives, 4 computers have scanners. Assistance is available during posted hours.

• Reference Area
  29 computers are available on the northeast side of the 2nd floor for Research purposes. These computers have access to library databases and the Internet. Three computers are dedicated to CD use only.

• Alcoves
  Computers are available on each floor for locating library materials. These computers have access only to the library catalog and databases.

• Wireless and Laptop Access
  Wireless access is available throughout the library. Students can bring their own laptops, or may borrow a laptop from the Circulation Desk.

Printing and Saving at the Libraries

• Printing
  Several printers are located throughout the library buildings. Printing requires purchase of a copycard, and incurs a charge per document page.

• Saving
  Documents may be saved to floppy disk or to flash drives. Select computers may also have access to CD burners or zip drives. Patrons must provide their own disks.

Wireless Laptop Access

  Wireless access is available throughout the library. Students can bring their own laptops, or may borrow a laptop from the Circulation Desk.

Connecting to Library Services from your Home Computer

• The FIU EZ-Proxy
  Most databases offered by the FIU Libraries are restricted to current students, staff, and faculty of the University. When connecting to these services from home, you must first login to the FIU EZ-Proxy service.
