The FIU Libraries invite you to become a FIU Library Associate.

Library Associates have an important role in contributing to the value of the University Libraries in the community. We need people like you to help us stimulate an awareness of the importance of libraries for the future development of the University and the community. Your contribution will help support new library resources and services.

Membership as an Associate is open to all individuals or corporate entities. Associates not affiliated with the University must be at least 18 years of age. The Membership information is listed below.

FIU Alumni, employees or currentlly enrolled students already have library privileges (use your FIU Panther I.D. Card).

Membership Levels & Privileges

Membership forms are available at the Circulation Desk.

  • Contributing
    • $50 per year
    • Check out a maximum of ten (10) items at one time.
    • Use the Hold and Recall services.
    • Use Intercampus Loan to borrow materials from the other FIU campus.
  • Patron / Corporate
    • $200 per year
    • Contributing Level privileges plus the use of Interlibrary Loan for borrowing materials from other libraries.

How to Check Out Materials

  • Your FIU LIBRARY CARD is required to checkout or renew library materials. Another person may not use your card.
  • You may check out a maximum of ten (10) items at any one time.
  • Only the Library Associate Patron/Corporate Membership Level has Interlibrary Loan privileges.
  • You are responsible for all materials borrowed on your library card, and for returning or renewing them on time. You will be charged for late, damaged, or lost materials.
  • Items may be checked out, renewed, or returned at either campus library. Items may also be renewed online. They must be brought to the Circulation Desk at either campus if a second renewal is required.

Overdue and Unreturned Items

  • Please note the due date listed with the material. This will be your only notification of the material's due date.
  • If your address or other personal contact information changes, please notify the Circulation Desk in writing. Include your library card number.
  • Fines for overdue materials are 25 cents per day per item with a maximum $5.00 fine for each overdue item.
  • A replacement cost will be charged for each item not returned 30 days beyond the due date. Once the material has been returned in good condition, the replacement cost will be voided and only the maximum overdue fine will remain.
  • Circulation privileges will be blocked if you have overdue items or outstanding fines and/or bills until all obligations are cleared.
  • All charges for overdue fines and replacement costs must be paid at the University Cashier's Office located in the PC Building, Room 120 (University Park) or Academic 1, Room 140 (Biscayne Bay Campus). The Library is not authorized to accept payment in any form.
