Mission Statement

The Sound & Image Collections consist of audiovisual resources intended to support the teaching needs of the faculty; as well as supplementing the academic research needs of students while providing cultural awareness and enrichment to all.

Access to all the collections is available through the Online Catalog
 
The following types of nonprint materials are available in both Libraries:
  • (VHS) video tapes
  • DVDs
  • 12 in. laser discs
  • CD-ROMs
These additional nonprint materials are housed at UP Library:
  • compact discs
  • LP records
  • art slides / digital images
  • books-on-tape

Equipment needed to use these materials is available for use in the library .

Collection Management

Library material funds are used to acquire materials to support the instruction and research needs of the university's programs. These funds are used to acquire materials to support the instruction and research needs of the university's programs. Resources acquired for the Sound & Image Collections must be compatible with equipment presently available at the department. Materials purchased with library funds are to be housed in the Sound & Image resources Dept.

Services Offered

Circulation

The following individuals may borrow FIU Audiovisual Library resources: faculty, adjuncts, staff, undergraduate, graduate, PhD students, alumni, library associates, SEFLIN members, other SUS. FIU valid library card is required for all transactions.

In-House Use
In-house use is defined as use in the Library or in a classroom on either Florida International University campus.
Classroom Use
Equipment Distribution: UP 2815 BBC 5741 arranges for equipment needed for classroom use.
Intercampus Loan
Monday through Friday an intercampus shuttle transfers AV materials between campus for in-house, classroom, or personal checkout.
Reserve AV
Faculty may place any av material on reserve for their students. A form declaring compliance with copyright law must be signed to place faculty's personal materials on reserve.
Computer Center
The computer center is for use by the university community.

Copyright Law and Fair Use Guidelines

It is our policy to conform and adhere to existing United States Copyright laws and to maintain the highest possible ethical standards in our use of copyrighted materials for instructional purposes. Copies of the law and guidelines are available at the library.
