Welcome to Maps and Imagery User Services (MIUS)
Map and Imagery User Services (MIUS) is the main repository of maps and other cartographic materials at Florida International University’s Steven and Dorothea Green Library.
MIUS is an extension of the GIS-RS Center and was conceptualized and developed in 2006 in order to meet the growing needs of students and faculty in the access, use, and analysis of cartographic materials and geospatial data.
Mission:
- Provide the FIU teaching and research community with both digital and printed collections of maps and imageries;
- Facilitate the access, visualization, and output of government and other non-profit organizations digital scanned maps and geo-spatial data;
- Provide a technology platform to utilize cartographic materials in the digital age;
- Work with faculty and instructors to integrate geospatial and statistical data into relevant classes and coursework;
- Promote informal education in earth and environment
Services
MIUS provides assistance in:
- Locating printed maps, atlases, and travel books
- Plotting
- Use of Geo-spatial Data Visualizations
- Use of GIS or other mapping programs
- GIS account creation
- Requesting cartographic materials
- GIS Training through free workshops or in a classroom setting.
