Our Mission

The GIS-RS Center, at the FIU Green Library, primarily supports all the computing and research needs in the areas of Geographic Information Systems, Remote Sensing, geo-statistical analysis for the FIU community. Consulting services include assistance with geographic information systems, data analysis and extraction, statistical software, scientific visualization and remote sensing software. We also provide training in the use of desktop GIS programs and organize seminars and workshops in GIS.

About Us

The FIU Library Geographic Information Systems and Remote Sensing Center supports research & teaching from many academic units, including Engineering, Computer Science, Biology, Environmental Studies, Earth Science, Public Health, International Studies, etc. in the areas of geo-spatial data, visualization, analysis & modeling. The major research focus of the center are in Web Portal GIS technoloy, geospatial data dissemination and visualization, Geo-spatial metadata management and creation, web interactive mapping, etc.


The GIS-RS Teaching Center hosts all GIS and RS courses required for completion of both graduate and professional levels of the FIU’s
GIS Certificate Program.  The Teaching Center is equipped with 25 high end workstations and GIS and Remote Sensing Software Programs such as ArcGIS and ERDAS. The Center also provide large collection of geo-spatial datasets worldwide, with a special focus on South Florida, Latin American and Caribbean and other environmental sensitive regions of the world.
