The Faculty Senate Library Fund, in support of the library resource endowment for the University Libraries, was established by the Faculty Senate through the leadership of Dr. Stephen M. Fain, formerly Senate Chairperson, and the Senate Steering Committee. The purpose of the fund is to advance private endowment that will help to mitigate the peaks and valleys of state funding and ensure a continuous source of income for the library materials budget. Faculty and members of the University Community joining with them have the opportunity to support FIU in an area that is beneficial to all.
The initial effort, undertaken at the time that the Steven and Dorothea Green Library was completed, raised almost $50,000 for the endowment. Participants contributed at least $300 for membership in the Fund. A continuation of the fund provides for Silver ($600) and Gold ($900) levels of giving. Names on plaques in both libraries will be lettered in blue, silver, or gold, as appropriate. Contributors may include any money previously given to the fund in establishing level of participation.
The continuation was announced and approved at the Faculty Senate Meeting April 16. Members of faculty and administration present on that day contributed $6000 to the fund.
If you have not participated in this effort, or wish to enhance the level of your participation, you may download a donor card from the Library Home Page, or obtain one from Laurence Miller, Executive Director of Libraries at 305/348-3133.
